"Thousands of teenagers who
claimed no religious system of belief said, when interviewed for the
2005 National Study of Youth and Religion, that they had been raised to
be religious, but over time had become 'non-religious.' The teenagers
were asked, in an open-ended question with no set answers from which to
choose, why they left the faith in which they were raised. The most
common answer (thirty-two percent) was intellectual skepticism."

Crossing Currents Offers:
Core
classes that provide a broad foundation for students to begin their study in the
areas of religious debate, apologetics, and Christian worldview.
Elective
classes to help support that foundation.
|
Core I (Basic)
The Core I (Basic) class provides an introductory foundation for students to
begin religious debate and apologetics. It spans topics such as the classic
arguments for the existence of God and for Christianity in particular, a
beginning hermeneutic (genres in the Bible), and an introduction to logic.
Requires basic writing skills.
Recommended for students who
have no previous exposure to debate and/or apologetics. Also a good class to
review the basics for those who want more dialogue
about these topics.

"Thank you
for the wonderful class...it stretched my kids to think and verbalize their
thoughts. It made for some great dinner conversation and we are all blessed
from having been a part of this class." --Faithe Anderson |

Core II (Intermediate)
The Core II (Intermediate) class
introduces students to several Christian apologists and their differing
approaches to apologetics. Students will also learn how to address the arguments
of famous thinkers who oppose Christianity. Students will explore
viable responses to apparent Bible contradictions, and become more familiar with
logical fallacies and how they affect both sides of the debate. Because of the
inquisitive nature of the apologetic process, a special focus of this class will
be on faith, doubt, and certainty. Requires research and report writing.
Recommended for students who have some
previous exposure to debate and/or apologetics, and who are familiar with the
basic arguments for the existence of God and for Christianity.

Core III (Advanced)
In the Core III class, students will learn to distinguish between absolute and
relative truth, the strengths and problems with modernism and postmodernism, and
how to address one of the most common issues they will face--objections to the Biblical God. We will also discuss
the need for objective assessment and maintaining respect for the individual
without endorsing or approving of competing worldviews. This is a critically
important but rigorous class. Requires research and essay writing.
Recommended for students who have a solid
background in basic apologetics similar to what is offered in the Crossing
Currents’ Core I and Core II classes. Not recommended for young teens. |
